High Dynamic Range Video for Cultural Heritage Documentation and Experimental Archaeology
نویسندگان
چکیده
Video recording and photography are frequently used to document Cultural Heritage (CH) objects and sites. High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging is increasingly being used as it allows a wider range of light to be considered that most current technologies are unable to natively acquire and reproduce. HDR video content however has only recently become possible at desirable, high definition resolution and dynamic range. In this paper we explore the potential use of a 20 f-stop HDR video camera for CH documentation and experimental archaeology purposes. We discuss data acquisition of moving caustics, flames, distant light and in participating media. Comparisons of Low Dynamic Range (LDR) and HDR content are made to illustrate the additional data that this new technology is able to capture, and the benefits this is likely to bring to CH documentation and experimental archaeology.

Cultural Heritage scientists need methodologies to examine Art and Archaeology in order to understand artistic materials and techniques and devise better conservation procedures. This review discusses the most successful and promising applications of Terahertz (THz) technology in Cultural Heritage Science. THz is used in homeland security and for plenty of other industrial sectors and it presen...
متن کاملPrehistoric archaeology in a dynamic spatial visualization environment
My paper addresses how the past can be understood as experiential by exploring the interaction between the mobile body and the structures of the built environment. My central argument is that in order for digital cultural heritage to include the social context it needs to consider bodies and patterns of movement in relation to physical architecture. In this paper a model is proposed for articul...
متن کاملThe 7th International Symposium on Virtual Reality, Archaeology and Cultural Heritage
Cultural heritage documentation induces the use of computerized techniques to manage and preserve the information produced. Geographical information systems have proved their potentialities in this scope, but they are not always adapted for the management of features at the scale of a particular archaeological site. Moreover, computer applications in archaeology are often technology driven and ...
متن کاملReflection Transformation Imaging and Virtual Representations of Coins from the Hospice of the Grand St. Bernard
Reflection transformation imaging offers a powerful new method of documenting and communicating numismatic cultural heritage information. The challenges of documenting numismatic material will be examined along with the limitations of traditional documentary techniques. Previous uses of structured light scanning and PTMs in numismatic documentation are reviewed and evaluated. A novel, low cost ...
